David Cox 11 studied with his father, notable English landscape painter and a major figure in the "Golden Age" of watercolor. Cox II followed his father's footsteps, painting mostly in watercolors. As most children do eventually, Cox the Second veered slightly from his father's detailed landscapes and accumulated a brighter palate than his father, as can be seen in this bright, illustrated watercolor. He exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1827, and the Society of Painters in Water Colours in 1848, where he eventually exhibited over 500 works.
