Artist and Magazine Information
The Botanical Magazine, or Flower-Garden Displayed, was first published in 1781 by William Curtis. It is the longest running botanical magazine and is widely referred to as Curtis's Botanical Magazine. The issues feature the work of two centuries of botanical illustrators. The illustrations were initially hand colored prints taken from copper engravings and used to complement the highly detailed description and history of each plant.
Curtis completed 13 volumes between 1787 and 1800. This particular print was published in v. 5-6. It is plate No. 174.
