Frerichs was born in Ghent, Belgium
and emigrated to America about 1852,
first settling in NYC. In 1854 he moved to Greensboro SC, where
he taught art until 1863. In 1869 he moved to Tottenville, Staten
Island NY and later to Newark NJ where he conducted an art school.
He is best known for his landscapes, often winter scenes. Exhibited
at The National Academy of Design.
